The actual procedure of wisdom teeth removal in Sydney is painless. But you will have to face an unpleasant recovery period after the surgery. Similar to the wisdom teeth removal cost in Sydney, the length of your recovery mainly depends on the complexity of the procedure. For instance, the extraction of a fully erupted wisdom tooth is easier when compared to a partially erupted one. Thus, the recovery wouldn’t be much longer. However, if you follow the after-care instructions provided by your dentist carefully, you can speed up the healing process, no matter how complex the surgery is.

Though, wisdom teeth removal is quite common, complications or unexpected results can occur just like any other medical treatment. The risk of developing secondary problems is higher between the ages of 25-34 years. Here are some most well-known risks that are related to wisdom teeth removal in Sydney,

Nerve damage

A nerve that is responsible for supplying feel to the lower lip, chin and the tongue runs closely to the roots of the wisdom teeth in the lower jaw. And it could be accidently damaged while removing your wisdom teeth. But this risk is highly associated with the older patients. When you remove them around the age of 18 however, the roots of the wisdom teeth would be shorter and thus the risk of injuring the nerve is minimised.

If your nerve is damaged, you would find it hard to eat and drink. Mostly it would last only for a few weeks or months. But if the damage is very severe, it would become permanent.

Sinus

The wisdom teeth in the upper jaw are present near your sinuses. When they are removed, it could create an opening between the mouth and the sinus. Similar to the nerve damage, this situation can be avoided by performing the surgery at the earliest stage when the roots are shorter. But if this occurs, you would be given specific instructions to follow like avoid blowing your nose and sneezing with an open mouth for a few days. And the problem would be resolved eventually.

Dry sockets

This condition occurs when the blood clot is not formed over the wound or if the developed blood clot gets dislodged. The most common reasons for this are smoking, failing to follow the after-care instructions, birth-control pills and you are above 25 years old. This issue can be solved by your dentist. He/she would place a medicated dressing over the socket until it gets healed.

Infection

Post-operative infection can happen occasionally. But is easily resolved by visiting your dentist, who would thorough clean the area and prescribe antibiotics to control the situation.

Other than these, you can experience some other minor complications like stiffness in the jaw, excessive bleeding, chafing near the lips and facial bruising.
